Might Be Harder To Reach The IRS This Year

Accoding to Bloomberg and National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson, it may get harder to reach the IRS by telephone in the next few years.  The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS), which is an independent office within the IRS, stated that this is the number one problem in a report that was recently released to Congress.

The TAS believes that there is becoming an emphasis on enforcement over customer service in the IRS’s long-term strategic plan, and how this could force many people to have to pay tax preparers for advice they use to get for free.

The impression the Taxpayer Advocate’s office has, based on discussions with IRS officials, is that the agency’s ultimate goal is to get out of the business of talking with taxpayers.
